I was...shocked.

If you have the time, you should watch this. I know it's long, but its definitely worth your time.  I think its time that hearing people are aware of how serious Cochlear implants are.  Many people think that fixing this "disability" (or what may seem like a disability to some) would make life easier. Cochlear implants are a very hot discussion on campus and within the Deaf Community.  It seems that people who are not Deaf never stop trying to fix Deaf children....

Let me know what you think.

wow that was really good, and crazy to think about. It is definitely a good way to get people to pay attention and consider this important issue.

This is a great video! I've seen it before. Parents have no idea what they're doing to their child when they force that machine inside their head. They are setting them up for a lifetime of hurt when they didn't need to be "fixed" in the first place.
When you give a child a Cochlear Implant you are not "giving them a choice between both worlds" (hearing world and deaf world) You are separating them from both while telling them that they are not ok the way they are. You may not tell them that up front, but your actions show them that. It shows them that they needed to be "fixed". Something needed to be added to make them whole, because without being able to hear, they are not whole.
Cochlear Implants along with any other kind of technology or medicine that tries to "fix" deaf people is a load of crap! Deaf people are deaf! There is nothing wrong with that! They are whole and human just the way they are!!

p.s. Sorry, that was a really long comment. I didn't get a chance to rant today and I am very frustrated. Thanks. :)

ha. timber, i loved your comment. this video was so great...i was honestly (in the middle of it) ready to comment back how they can't do that! at first i was thinking, "how unfair is this? this is just like any other hearing person trying to fix a deaf person, so why would you want to do the same??"..and then i saw the dog! oh man, too good.
i realized how upset some deaf people must feel and i think for a moment i felt exactly the same...
